I decided to install Fedora 21 on a new MacBook Air.

MacBook Air SMC Firmware Update Version: 1.2, posted on June 29, 2009 is 623KB in size, requires Mac OS X 10.5.7. Reset the SMC on Mac Notebooks With Nonremovable Batteries. All MacBook Air models have nonremovable batteries. So do MacBook and MacBook Pro models that were introduced in mid-2009 until the present, except for the 13-inch mid-2009 MacBook. This method is not recommended for Macs with the Apple T2 security chip introduced in 2018. The latest version of Apple MacBook Air SMC Update is 2.0 on Mac Informer. It is a perfect match for the System Tools category. The app is developed by Apple. MacBook Air
The MacBook is the MacBook Air (13-inch, Early 2015) or MacBookAir7,2. Here is the system information:
The install was very similar to this one.
Re-Partition the OS disk
I just started the Disk Utility and resized the OS (I gave the Linux OS only 25GB):
Create a Bootable USB from the Fedora Live DVD ISO
After downloading the Fedora ISO, I had the following file:
First we have to convert the ISO into a DMG (I talked about different image formats here):
I had a 32GB USB drive with an ext3 partition on it, as soon as plug it in it would get auto mounted and here are the partitions on the USB drive:
So first I unmounted the USB Drive:
Then I removed the MBR partition scheme:
Then the disk was blank

We can also use diskutil to zero out the disk: If you download app for mac is it on macbook pro too fix.
Either way after the disk is ready to be used you can then DD the DMG onto it:
After that the USB disk will have the following disk partition:
If you are going to unplug the USB disk then first unmount it:
If this is the same laptop where you are going to install Fedora then just reboot the laptop.
Installing Fedora
Right as you reboot the Mac hold down the alt/option key and you will see a list of available bootable devices:
Boot from the Fedora disk and the live CD will start booting. When then Live CD starts it will ask you if you want to install onto the hard disk or try the Live CD, I selected to install onto the Hard Disk. During the installation wizard I asked the install to use the free space and to create the partitions automatically and the following partitions were created:
After the installed finished I rebooted and I saw the GRUB menu:
Selecting the top menu booted into Fedora without issues.
Post Install Configuration
It took about 6.6 seconds to boot into the OS:
Installing the Wireless Driver
I had a thunderbolt-to-ethernet adapter, after plugging it in, the tg3 driver picked it up:
and the ethernet device showed up:
After using Network Manager I got an IP via DHCP and then I updated all the packages:
Then I installed the kernel-devel package along with the kmod-wl package:
Then after the reboot I was able to see the wireless device:
and wl0 is the driver
Fixing the Brightness Button
I realized the Brightness Buttons F1 and F2 weren’t working on Gnome-Shell. The the notification showed up but it didn’t change anything. So I ran across this and the fix is to add the following to GRUB:
![Macbook air 7 2 smc download iso Macbook air 7 2 smc download iso](https://i.ebayimg.com/images/g/bB4AAOSwbJhehMM4/s-l300.jpg)
and then to re-generate the grub menu:
Fix the ~ key
Upon pushing the tilde key (~) I was seeing the greater than sign (>). The bug is described here and to fix that issue I modified the GRUB config again to have the following:
And then after re-genenating the GRUB menu one more time and rebooting the issue was fixed. Adobe document editor free download.

Booting back into Mac OS X
To boot back into Mac OS X, just reboot and hold down the alt/option key and you will see the Macintosh HD and Fedora bootable devices: Diablo 2 mac free download pc.
Upon selecting Macintosh HD you will boot back into Mac OS X. Once booted you can go into System Preferences and change the Start Up Disks if you so desire:
Also by default the EFI partition from LInux will show up on your Desktop. To hide it from Finder you can run the following:
Booting into Mac OS X with GRUB
By default the GRUB menu will contain entries for Mac OS X, but when you try to boot from one of the enries you will recieve the following errors:
The issue is described here. It sounds like chainloading is a way to go, so I ended up adding the following config:
I chose gpt3 cause that’s where the Apple Boot partition was
And I found a pretty good example of the config here. Then I re-generated the GRUB menu, rebooted and chose the “Mac OS X Yosemite” entry and I saw Mac OS X boot up.
